Three ways people come to Camp Lilac

Pick the one that sounds like you. Every package includes park fees, a private open jeep with our own guide, and meals.

From Dar es Salaam

Weekend in the wild by SGR train

From US$394per person

Leave Dar on the morning train, game drive the same afternoon, sleep in a luxury tent, dawn drive, home by evening. Free transfer from Morogoro to Mikumi.

From Zanzibar

A real safari, not a 4 a.m. day trip

From US$394per person, excluding flights

Fly or take the ferry to Dar, train to Morogoro, two days of game drives and a night under canvas facing the Mikumi mountain ridge. Back on the beach by the next evening. Zanzibar–Dar flights cost roughly US$160–200 each way; we can book them for you.

Southern circuit

Mikumi, Udzungwa waterfalls and the quiet south

From US$473per person

Three or four days: the Mikumi floodplain, the hippo pools, the Sanje waterfall hike — with a free train ticket from Dar and transfer to the camp when you book direct.

Most of Mikumi sleeps by the highway. We don’t.

Camp Lilac is set back in the bush, facing the Mikumi mountain ridge. Luxury canvas tents built to the same standard as the Serengeti’s best camps — private bathrooms, air conditioning and private decks — a restaurant that looks straight at the mountains, and nothing to hear at night but the bush itself.

We are Mikumi’s only luxury tented camp, and the only camp with a view of the Mikumi mountain ridge. Impala, warthog and monkeys wander through the camp. Our own guides run the game drives, and we arrange your transfers from Morogoro SGR station or Dar es Salaam.

Owner-run

Run by the owner, not a hotel chain

I’m Gatis. I built Camp Lilac because Mikumi deserved one place where the tents are as good as the park. Message me or the team on WhatsApp — we reply within 4 hours during the day, and we will tell you honestly which room and which safari fit your trip.

Every meal facing the Mikumi mountain ridge

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served in our open-sided restaurant, the one dining room in Mikumi with a mountain view. When you book direct, breakfast and dinner are included (lunch is US$15) — cooked fresh, Tanzanian and international dishes — and the bar deck is where everyone ends up at sunset.
